Arthur J. Cappabianca

U.S. Navy
Vietnam | Persian Gulf

Arthur was born in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. At the age of 18, Arthur enlisted in the United States Navy. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1963 to 1969 as a sonar technician, aboard the USS Warrington (DD-843), Yosemite (AD-19), Lorikeet (MSCO-49), and Meadowlark (MSC-196). He returned to the Naval Reserve in 1980 as an intelligence specialist, rising to the rank of Chief before retiring in 1995.

Arthur dedicated 26 years to the New York City Police Department, retiring at the rank of Sergeant. During his off hours, he moonlighted as a stand-up comedian and emcee at the comedy club ‘Good Times’ in Manhattan.

Arthur’s true passion remained always with the Navy, where he served for 20 years and worked as a Chief Intelligence Specialist. He enlisted in the United States Naval Reserve and rose to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. Arthur later became a Blue & Gold Officer for the United States Naval Academy, helping many young candidates navigate the application process, receiving several ‘Blue and Gold’ awards for his efforts.

Arthur was actively involved in his local community, serving as President of the Decker Avenue Civic Association and as a District Leader of the Republican Party. He was also a member of Community Board 1 and the Blessed Sacrament Holy Name Society. Arthur believed deeply in the power of ordinary citizens to effect change. In his later years, Arthur pursued a creative outlet as a novelist, writing and publishing seven books. This endeavor brought him great fulfillment and inspired many who followed his work.

Above all, Arthur cherished his role as a loving husband to his wife Agnes, to whom he was married for 44 years, father of four children: John, Joseph, James, and Jessica, and grandfather of eight beloved grandchildren. Known affectionately as “Poppi,” he was happiest when surrounded by his grandchildren, with Agnes by his side.

Arthur John Cappabianca, passed away on July 4, 2024, at the age of 78. A true patriot, neighbor, friend, father, and husband, Arthur will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
