Edward Kechner

Edward Kechner grew up with his four brothers on Rainbow Ave in Port Richmond. He attended
Public School 20 and graduated from Port Richmond High School.

Edward and three of his brothers were in the service during World War II. Edward served in the U.S. Navy, and was a Coxswain on various ships in the Pacific Theater during the war. His three brothers served in the U.S. Army, with one brother Vincent, perishing during the attack at Pearl Harbor.

After the war, Edward returned to Staten Island, married his wife, Joan and raised four children in Great Kills. He received the American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal (with two Bronze Stars).

Edward worked as an engineer for the New York Telephone Company until his retirement. He enjoyed golfing, trips to Hawaii and Ireland and vacations with family on Long Beach Island. He especially enjoyed spending time with his four grandchildren. Edward and Joan retired to Columbus,
N.J. in 1984.

Edward Kechner passed away at 87 years old in 2011. He had a happy and well lived life.
