Mr. Richard Carreras was born in Staten Island New York. His parents are the late Lucille Martin and Jose R. Carreras, Sr. He has one brother and three sisters.
He graduated McKee Vocational Technical High School and took up wood working. In 1983 he joined the NYPD and the following year joined the National Guard.
Richard Carreras was activated and worked at the World Trade Center for thirteen months during 9/11. In 2004 he went to Iraq and stayed for eighteen months. In 2006 he retired with an Honorable Discharge.
Upon returning home, he joined different military organizations to continue serving the community.
He was H&S Cichon 1578 American Legion Post Commander. Now he is the Present Commander. At the 369 Richmond District he is the Second Vice President and life member. He is also the 2nd vice commander of USIVO DAV life member Chapter 34 S.I.
Richard Carreras is a member of St. Philips Baptist Church. He is married to Brenda L. Carreras for twenty years. Richard has a son Richard Jr. and a daughter Taneesha along with four granddaughters. He has been a foster parent for 5 years. Richard is a Chaplin and received best in class and a Bilingual Award from the FLACA (Federal Latin American Chaplain Association)
